On Tuesday, Year 1 embarked on a memorable educational visit to the Rural Life Museum near Farnham, where they immersed themselves in the customs and routines of Victorian life.
Dressed in traditional costumes - pinafores and mob caps for the girls, caps, waistcoats and neckerchiefs for the boys - the children truly looked the part!
Following a brief moment of play, Miss Katherine rang the bell and silence fell as the children lined up and entered a strict Victorian classroom. They wrote on slates, sat in rows experiencing the discipline and expectations of the era. In character, one child wore a hand strap to discourage left-handed writing, another donned a dunce’s cap and one even playfully pretended to be caned. A posture board was used by a pupil deemed to be slouching - adding to the authenticity of the experience.
The children showed great humour and maturity throughout, impressing staff with their behaviour. After further exploration of rural Victorian life, the visit concluded with a fun ride on a small train. It was a brilliant outing - well done Year 1.
