In our Nursery, the children learn and develop through practical, play based activities and are supported to try a wide variety of activities and share their experiences with each other.
Our Nursery staff team includes two qualified teachers with the remaining staff holding at least NVQ Level 3 qualifications.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers the children’s education between the ages of two and five years old. The Nursery curriculum is organised into three prime and four specific areas of learning and development.
1. Communication & Language
2. Physical Development
3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
1. Literacy
2. Mathematics
3. Understanding of the World
4. Expressive Art and Design
Imaginative play is at the heart of the Nursery curriculum, children have the opportunity to develop inquisitive minds and ask questions. Our staff plan activities both inside and outside the classroom and there is plenty of opportunity for child-initiated learning.
Social skills are nurtured and developed in each session by opportunities to learn through play, during snack time and eating lunch in the school main dining room.
Our community enhancement programme provides enriching experiences that deepen children's learning within real-life contexts. We also believe it is essential for children to connect with their community, so we provide opportunities for them to visit local places including the park, local shops and cafes in the Nursery curriculum.
Every week the children will have a weekly visit to the school gym for their specialist PE class as well as French and Music lessons taken by the school’s specialist staff in the Nursery building. There are also numerous trips to the school sports ground for exploration, nature and wildlife walks!
“Children in the EYFS were highly confident to join in phonics games and activities and express their own thoughts." ISI March 2023
