Welcome to Micklefield, a leading independent prep school and nursery in the heart of Reigate.
Whenever I talk to new parents at the gates or school events, they invariably describe the difference in their child since joining Micklefield: a blossoming; a new-found inner-confidence; a burgeoning joy in learning; a sense of getting their child back. Many allude to ‘Micklefield Family Magic’.
Central to this alchemy is our family focus. Like all good families, our school has relationships, communication and shared values at its heart. When you join Micklefield, your family becomes part of our school family, and we become an extension of yours. We partner with you in parenting your child through their formative years, joining forces to provide seamless support. In an increasingly globalised and busy society, with extended family often at distance, we provide the extra guidance and encouragement families need to thrive: a sounding board on challenges; a thinking partner on solutions; a trusted, experienced and non-judgemental player on your family team, as invested in your child’s wellbeing and success as you are.
How do we do this?
Our small size means we get to know you and your child well. Daily informal exchanges are strengthened by numerous opportunities to be part of your child’s experience in school. This builds strong relationships and allows meaningful home-school dialogue to flourish. Within school, older children care for their younger counterparts, helping unpack bags and hang up coats at the start of the day. Lunchtime sees children from across the year groups eating together and building connections. In this way a close-knit family community is formed and children achieve because they feel safe, known and valued.
Then there is the larger Reigate Grammar School family to which we belong. This allows your child to transfer to RGS senior school without sitting an exam, removing what can be a source of stress for some. If RGS isn’t your preferred pathway, our in-depth knowledge of your child ensures we find the right fit for senior school, preparing them to succeed at 11+ and in their next school family.
