Year 3 Visit Wakehurst Place

Year 3 embarked on a fascinating trip to Wakehurst Place, where they explored the wonders of plant life up close. The visit provided a fantastic opportunity for the children to examine the intricate structure of a flower. The children carefully dissected the different parts of an Alstroemeria plant and observed the different parts under a microscope.

Throughout the day, they closely studied how the different parts of a plant evolve as it grows and identified the functions of key structures, including roots, stems, trunks, leaves and flowers. They also delved into the vital role flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants - exploring processes such as pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal.

It was an enriching experience, deepening their understanding of botany in an engaging and hands-on way.

We received wonderful feedback from Wakehurst Place following Year 3’s visit. The staff and volunteers were incredibly impressed by the children’s enthusiasm, engagement and outstanding behaviour. Well done Year 3 for representing our school so brilliantly.
