On Wednesday, Miss Francis delivered a whole school assembly about Neurodiversity and Neurodiversity Celebration Week. She began by showing a BBC video that explained how neurodiversity affects the way people communicate with the world around them. The term "neurodiversity" comes from the word "neurological." The video featured children with different forms of neurodiversity, including ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia.
Miss Francis went on to explain the differences between Dyslexia and Autism, highlighting the unique strengths they bring. She shared examples of some well known celebrities who are neurodivergent. The children were surprised to learn that Albert Einstein was both dyslexic and autistic, yet incredibly successful. Miss Francis also shared ways that children can be kind and help each other.
We were delighted to have four former Micklefield pupils - Evie, Daisy, Hannah and Ruth now at RGS join us. They spoke more about neurodiversity and shared some helpful strategies to help children with their learning. Thank you for visiting us.
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is about recognizing and celebrating the strengths and talents of people who think and learn differently. Miss Francis emphasised that neurodiversity is like a superpower, embracing the benefits of our brains thinking differently.
