Reception children enjoyed visiting Box Hill for a Winter Walk. Upon arrival, they gathered to enjoy the story, ‘When will it be Spring?’ by Catherine Walters while enjoying a warm drink and biscuit. The charming tale follows a bear and her cub as they prepare for hibernation, with the cub learning about the signs of Spring.
Following the story, the children embarked on a walk where they keenly observed the signs of Winter and noted the changes from Autumn. The story's main characters were bears and this led to discussions about animals who hibernate during the Winter.
As a hands-on activity, the children created hedgehogs using pinecones. They added sticky eyes and built nests to keep their hedgehogs warm during the cold Winter days.
The children had a wonderful time and are all looking forward to their next seasonal visit to Box Hill.
