U11A Girls Celebrate 3rd place in IAPS Netball Tournament
On Monday. the U11A team travelled to Cranleigh School for the annual IAPS netball tournament. Hundreds of schools are taking part in regional competitions in the next couple of weeks, with the top two teams from each regional event progressing through to the national finals in March.
Our girls started off well in a group competition where they played three matches and won them all (St. Benedict’s 9-3, Glendower 7-3 and Danes Hill 7-4) This meant they finished top in their group, moving through to the Cup section of the tournament.
Micklefield were drawn against Guildford High School, a strong school! They played brilliantly and won the match 11-3, which meant they were through to the semi-finals.
We played Putney in the semi-final match. The girls tried their best and worked hard but unfortunately, we lost 3-0.
This meant we were in the playoffs for 3rd or 4th place. Here they met Highfield and had a very tense game. At half time, Highfield were winning by 3 goals to 1 but our girls were not going to let them pull away. We came back to win the game 7-5!
Micklefield came 3rd and finished with deserved bronze medals! Missing the cut for the national finals by just one place!
Well done to all the girls – they all played incredibly well and showed grit and determination while supporting each other. The girls made the coaches very proud!
