Micklefield Nursery children have been learning about how our bodies work. This week, they explored what happens to the food we eat. To help them understand digestion, they carried out a hands‑on experiment using a slice of bread placed inside a plastic bag to represent the stomach. Warm water was added to mimic stomach acid, then each child had a turn to gently squish the bag, discovering how the stomach contracts to break down food.
The children were fascinated by how much the bread changed, using descriptive words such as warm, soft and squishy to explain what they observed. To deepen their understanding, the children finished the session by listening to an engaging non fiction book titled: 'What happens when you eat?', which helped deepen their understanding of the digestive process.
It was a wonderful afternoon filled with curiosity, discovery and active learning. Well done, everyone!
