Reception Stick Man Adventure at Gatton Park

Reception enjoyed a trip to Gatton Park, with excitement beginning on the minibuses as the children played eye‑spy on the way. Their guide, Sally, met them on arrival and led them across the frosty paths to the Education Hut. There, the children enjoyed a shortbread biscuit while listening to Stick Man by Julia Donaldson before creating their own Stick Men using sticks, pipe cleaners, eyes and paper leaves.

After crafting, the children wrapped up warmly for their outdoor learning adventure. They followed a scenic Winter trail to the lake, noticing how frost had transformed the trees, grass and water - “just like Stick Man”. Sally showed them an old tree trunk filled with holes, which the children correctly identified as woodpecker marks.

At the lake, an outdoor learning area awaited with activities inspired by the story, including nest‑building, stick fires, pixie trees and searching for characters from the book.
