This week, Mr Bracken led an important whole-school assembly on Online Safety, helping pupils understand the risks they may encounter in today's digital world and how to stay safe when using technology.
From educational platforms such as TT Rock Stars to school iPads, computers, television and online games, technology plays an important role in children's lives. At Micklefield, teaching children how to use these tools safely and responsibly is a key part of our curriculum, and online safety remains an important message that is reinforced across the school.
During the assembly, Mr Bracken discussed the growing presence of AI-generated images and how to spot them, the dangers of communicating with strangers online, the impact of cyberbullying and the importance of recognising scams and misleading content. The children were encouraged to think critically about what they see online and to make safe choices when using digital devices.
Mr Bracken also reminded everyone about the SMART Rules for staying safe online:
S – Stay Safe
Never share personal information online.
M – Meet
Never arrange to meet someone you have only spoken to online.
A – Accepting
Be cautious about accepting messages, files or images from people you do not know.
R – Reliable
Always check whether information online is trustworthy and accurate.
T – Tell
Tell a trusted adult if something online makes you feel worried, uncomfortable or unsafe.
