On Wednesday, Year 6 welcomed local financial advisor, Mr Simon Ellis, for an engaging and informative session on managing money and planning for the future.
Mr Ellis began by asking pupils about their aspirations and the careers they might pursue, prompting thoughtful discussion about future pathways and earning potential. He went on to explain the importance of saving, introducing key concepts such as salaries, mortgages and pensions, and emphasising the value of starting to save early in life.
The class explored financial topics in greater depth, including inflation and the difference between essential and non-essential spending. They also touched on important issues such as cybercrime and fraud, learning about the potential risks in an increasingly digital world.
Mr Ellis was impressed by the pupils’ existing knowledge, with discussions even extending to compound interest. He shared some entertaining anecdotes from his work, highlighting unusual questions clients have asked him over the years, which added a light-hearted element to the session.
He concluded by encouraging pupils to make the most of their time at school and to value the friendships they form, reminding them that these can last a lifetime.
Year 6 would like to extend their sincere thanks to Mr Ellis for such a valuable and enjoyable talk.
