Allergy Awareness Assembly with Miss Rule

This week, Miss Rule led a whole school assembly focusing on ‘Anaphylaxis’ and the importance of being ‘Allergy Aware’. The children learned what an allergic reaction is and discovered that around 8 in 100 children have an anaphylactic allergy. A key message was that you cannot always see an allergy, making awareness and understanding even more important.

As part of the learning, the school has welcomed a special visitor – an allergy awareness doll called Ruby. Ruby has anaphylaxis to milk and sesame and also has hay fever and asthma. Throughout the week, Ruby will be visiting classes and helping to bring learning to life through practical medical allergy scenarios.

During the assembly, the children were introduced to the 14 main allergens and discussed ways they can help keep everyone safe. They shared thoughtful ideas, including not sharing snacks, looking out for friends with allergies and knowing how to get help quickly if someone is having a reaction.

This important initiative is helping to build understanding, empathy and responsibility across the school community, ensuring that everyone plays a part in keeping each other safe.
