It was wonderful to come together as a school community to celebrate Ocean Day. This year was extra special as we also marked Sir David Attenborough’s upcoming 100th birthday, decorating our playground with 100 chalk sea animals.
Throughout the term, and as part of our work to raise awareness of plastic pollution and its impact on our oceans, we are running a ‘Save a Bottle from the Sea’ initiative. We are encouraging children to reuse plastic bottles in fun and creative ways, while thinking carefully about sustainability.
Year 6 shared some fantastic examples during our whole-school assembly on Monday, including bird feeders, skittles, pen pots, plant containers and musical instruments. We have also been delighted to see many other imaginative ideas brought in by children, such as snack pots, decorations and ball‑catcher games.
We are running a competition across the term, whereby each class is keeping track of how many plastic bottles they are able to reuse. WWF dolphin soft toys will be awarded as prizes at the end of term!
Please continue to share your creative ideas with your classes – we cannot wait to see more of your wonderful creations. Children are welcome to bring their reused bottle designs into school, or parents may email a photo to their class teacher via the school office.
